Nathan Family & Descendants

Our Nathan family can be traced to Paul Nathan early in the 19th Century. His son Herman Heimann NATHAN married  Emilie Wertheimer in Charlottenberg Germany. They had 6 children Otto, Paul, Herman, Elizabeth, Annie, & Rosa.

The Wertheimer family can be traced Ignace Wertheimer ( born 1819 FRANCONE, MITASTZ  ? died Charlottenberg1892) and Babbette Wenicker (born 1830).

The Wertheimer family were in the hide & textile business, which was the business that Herman Heimann NATHAN  therefore moved into.

Herman Heimann NATHAN and  Emilie Wertheimer in 1878 -  1880 ended up managing the family business of textile & hide trading in Bristol England where Annie Ethel Nathan was born. (a VERY fortuitous situation as it allowed her daughter Bertie to claim British citizenship and escape Nazi Germany and via England to escape to a British Colony - New Zealand)

The story of the Nathan family is the story of many European Jews in the late 19th century. The 6 Nathan  Children migrated around the world. The boys all ended up in South Africa, initially pursuing their careers in the hide business.
Annie stayed in Germany (Berlin), Rosa migrated to London, England, and Elizabeth migrated to Paris France.

Today the descendant families include:
Dallos, Heymann, Jones, Behr, Curnow, Friedmann, Boccon-Gibod, Lapie, Leroy, Dujarric De La Riviere, Silverman, Eting, Noy, Jammy, Swerdlow, Berman, Kermond, Mc Coll, Grolman, Gam, Werman, Godins, and Levy.

It is an extensive family some living in Israel, other is Sydney & Melbourne Australia, others in New York & Florida USA, Paris France, London England. Some families have remained Jewish while others, through intermarriage, are now Christian.
